TREATMENT OF CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS

EARLY TREATMENT

There are many different developmental problems that we can treat even when the first set of teeth (deciduous teeth) are still present with our so called "early treatment program". These treatments normally begin within the age range of 4 and 8 years.

TREATMENT OBJECTIVE

The goal of the early treatment program is not only to ensure sufficient space for the adult teeth, but also to stimulate the growth and development of the jaw and therefore the whole body in such a way that dysfunctions and unfavorable positional changes of the jaw do not appear or return with the eruption of the adult teeth. Nevertheless, some patients may need further treatment of the permanent teeth, since we want to follow up on treatment goals during the second dentition. Thanks to the priorly undertaken early treatment, the duration of the main treatment is reduced significantly.

MAIN TREATMENT

Many children don't need early treatment and they start with the adolescent treatment program at the ages of 9 to 14 years. With this program we are able to achieve excellent treatment results within 15-18 months. The appropriate time to begin this treatment is of utmost importance. Treatment methods have been dramatically improved over the past few years to the point where functional disturbances and consequently their related health problems are minimized or even eliminated. The goals of the Balance Treatment Concept are easiest to achieve when treatment is implemented at the adolescent age resulting in a success rate of 95%.

TOOTH REMOVAL

Tooth extraction is only necessary in 1% of all cases, which involve extremely wide teeth in combination with an extreme narrow jaw. However, this does not stop us from achieving great results.

In most cases, tooth removal is contraindicated and can lead to severe long-term side effects. In almost all cases it is now possible for us to succeed without tooth extraction.

SHORT TREATMENT

New materials, individual scheduling as well as the selection of modern arches and springs, ('intelligent' self-ligating bracket design, etc.) create more comfort, convenience, fewer patient requirements, increased hygiene and most significantly a shorter treatment duration.

GENTLE TREATMENT

We highly recommend parents not to scare their children with horror stories from their own experience with orthodontic treatment in the past. Modern orthodontic treatment is simpler and more comfortable for the patient than ever before. In this context, you may have heard of the experience that relapse and dysfunctions of the teeth and the jaw reappear after orthodontic treatment. However, the Balance Treatment Concept provides a system in which that simply does not happen.

Case 2
10-year-old female patient with significant narrow  jaws before and after 3 years of orthodontic treatment. Initially removable orthodontic appliances (Functional Regulator -Fränkel) and later fixed multibracket appliance. The previous craniosacral compression syndrome and the body misalignment were no longer detectable after treatment.

Case 3
10-year-old patient with congenital severe imbalance between tooth and jaw size before and after three years of orthodontic treatment. Due of the special shape of the jaw (very rare) it was necessary to remove four permanent molar teeth. Only after careful consideration, a good result in the spirit of the balance treatment concept will also be achieved with an extraction treatment.
