The growth and development of a women's jaw is completed earliest at the age of 14 and latest at 18 years. The jaw development in men may last until the age of 25. This fact is an important consideration in the orthodontic treatment. However, in many cases lack of further growth of the jaws is not of great significance for an adult patient, as most cases are only about straightening crooked or displaced teeth; a problem that can be corrected relatively simply without surgical intervention at any age. So far our oldest patient was 76 years old, which means that there is virtually no age limit. Changes of teeth and jaw positions that occur during adulthood can mostly be corrected easily.
In some other cases that involve massive abnormalities or incorrect development of the teeth, jaw and/or face, particular surgical procedures are very helpful and often necessary. The functional and aesthetic changes that result from such procedures are spectacular! Many patients who have undergone such treatment programs have discovered an improvement in their self-esteem and confidence as well as an increased level of social acceptance and even improved their job opportunities.
Our philosophy of avoiding the extraction of permanent teeth also applies to our adult patients. This important goal is often achieved by sophisticated treatment methods and appliances. The basic philosophy of the Balance Treatment Concept is of utmost importance to insure the safety and success of treatment but also for the general wellbeing of the patient.

The treatment duration can take from 6 up to 30 months. In some cases, the reevaluation and renewal of fillings and prostheses done by the general dentist is necessary after or before the orthodontic treatment.
Smoking and the consumption of recreational drugs are the most important contraindications for the use of fixed braces. Correct nutrition is of extreme importance during the orthodontic treatment to provide the body with the necessary vitamins, minerals and energy it needs for the adjustments of the teeth and jaws. Therefore, nutritional consultation and advice is an essential part of our treatment program.
CASE 1:
Patient before and after combined orthognathic jaw surgery. Treatment with open bite and unfavorable facial proportions ( retruded chin with vertical facial over-development.
CASE 2:
22-year-old patient with over developed lower jaw (progeny) as well as underdeveloped upper jaw before and after a combined orthodontic/surgical treatment.
CASE 3:
61 year old patient with multiple gaps between teeth as well as rotated and tilted teeth after tooth loss before and after orthodontic and prosthodontic therapy.
CASE 4:
33-year-old female patient with strong back and shoulder discomfort, craniomandibular dysfunction and pronounced mandibular asymmetry (lateral shift) due to lack of a mandibular tooth. After functional therapy with the Alf / COPA appliance, as well as orthodontic and prosthodontic treatment with the invisible lingual bracket technique ( she was free of symptoms.
CASE 5:
26-year-old female patient with mandibular asymmetric overdevelopment, crossbite, laterognathy (lateral deviation of the lower jaw) and disc displacement in both temporomandibular joints (clicking) combined with severe headaches and back pain. The treatment was carried out with the COPA (craniomandibular orthopedic positioning appliance) for 6 months with subsequently reduced symptoms. This was followed by combined orthodontic and surgical treatment with the multi bracket appliance resulting in freeing the patient of all her symptoms.
Fall 6:
38-year-old patient with open bite (lack of contact of the lateral and anterior teeth) and painful disk displacement in the right temporomandibular joint (cracking) before and after functional treatment with the COPA (Craniomandibular Orthopedic Positioning Device) and further treatment with lingual breaces (internal invisible brackets / braces) and new ceramic crowns in the anterior and posterior region.
